SGT. Marc Christ recently returned to Iraq for his second tour. He is a commander of a boat team. In the picture he is pointing and in full battle gear.
The Marines use Small Unit Riverine Craft, military boats used by the Armed Forces to secure rivers and other small bodies of water, to patrol the Euphrates River and the manmade Lake Qadisiyah, which sits on the northern side of the dam.

Gary Tichenor, Iraq (gttichenor@aol.com)
04/27/2004: Gary is located in NE Iraq and is doing interrogations through an interpreter. He said the weather is like standing under a giant hair dryer. Off base he noticed that the Iraqi children are well fed but have nothing else. Crayons, markers, small cars are hot items for the soldiers to distribute.
6/18/2004: Gary said thanks for the crayons for the kids, who like the Americans - now he has so many crayons he is stocked for a long time. Appreciates the letters, good wishes and support from friends and family.
9/11/2004: Gary was on two week leave in Oregon with his family and is returning to Iraq, east of Baghdad near the Iranian border. Will be teaching his fellow soldiers Kurdish and helping with intelligence information about possible attacks and weapon caches. Will hopefully return to USA in early 2005.
1/08/05: From Gary's wife, Christine: "Our prayers have been answered and Gary is home!...We are all back in Chapel Hill, although Gary still has duty at Ft. Bragg for a few more weeks...Please keep ALL of those affected by war in your prayers including soldiers who didn't make it home, the wounded and their families. In historical and current conflicts, politics aside, they have stood up to the plate so admirably to protect the free."
