Game review by Greg Grimsley
Towson University Rugby Football Club won 55-0 against George Mason on Saturday, November 5th. The weather conditions were fair with a temperature of about 60°F. Towson University closed our home field, Burdick, due to “unsuitable playing conditions”, again. The Loyola Rugby Football Club was kind enough to allow us to play on their home field as they played Navy away. The field was soaked with many areas of standing water however, both teams were eager to play.
The game started with the Tigers receiving the ball. The Tigers made quick work to score. Kicking the ball out of their half of the field played the good field postion to pound the ball with the forwards and swing the ball out wide with the try coming from Nick Renaud. The points after was good putting the Tigers up 7-0. One phase from the flyhalf, Matt Chiaramonte, took it 60 yards for the try. Points after was good. Score Towson 14, GMU 0. The second half started with Towson pinning the GMU inside their 22. After a 5 meter scrum, scrumhalf Felipe Tobar put up a try. The points after was no good. After putting some phases together, Towson spread the ball wide to Roger Sauer who dotted the ball down for a try. The points after was good. Score: Towson 43, GMU 0. On the ensuing restart, Towson was penalized for obstruction and GMU chose to kick for points. They missed and Towson dotted it down for a 22 drop out.
