Quantico Game Results

After traveling down to Quantico, VA to play the Marines, Towson Rugby’s A side returned with a W. The final score was 12 – 8 in favor of Towson. It was a grueling match the whole way through, but Towson managed to hold on to the lead and keep Quantico out of the try zone during their small ball offensive of the final few minutes. Unfortunately this game was riddled with injuries. Flyhalf Chris Lowe had to leave the field within the first 10 minutes due to an ankle injury. During the second half, prop and team captain Vincent Rampolla had to be taken off the field in an ambulance, also due to an ankle injury. Tries were scored by Travis Kumar and Drew Maccherola. Man of the match was awarded to Greg Salvucci.

The B side match was cut down to two 20 minute halves as opposed to the typical 40 minute halves because both teams were short on players. Many of the B side players for both teams played most, if not all, of the A side game. With many players stepping on a rugby pitch for the first time, this was a great learning experience for all. In the end, Quantico came out on top with a score of 17 – 5. The lone try was scored by Forest Spiegel.

Next weekend Towson will host Catholic University in their season home opener, and their first home game in over a year. The game will take place on Saturday, March 27th at 1pm on Burdick Field. There will be both an A and B match.
